Terrarium Workshop
Gabby from the Tiny Greenhouse led a terrarium workshop!
The speaker at our March meeting will be Tanara Hall an environmental professional who works at the Ocean County Department of Solid Waste Management. Her areas of expertise include environmental management, solid waste, education & outreach, sustainable communities, and zero waste. She is also a member of the Ocean County Sustainability Hub, and the Island Heights Environmental Committee. The Three R’s of sustainability are Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Tanara’s program is focused on the last of these and is entitled Recycling Right.

We met on the lawn at the Robert Anslet Cultural Arts Center. Lisa Tess from the Herbert at Bear Creek Farms in Howell, gave a wonderful presentation! It was great to see the Garden Club members! We will meet outside again in October! (More photos on the ‘photos’ page!)

Meeting September 14th, 2021
Our September meeting will held outdoors at the Cultural Arts Center on September 14th beginning at 5:30pm. Lisa Tess, Greenhouse Manager & Plant Buyers at The Herbary will provide our program - "September in the Garden - Don't put those tools away yet!" Many of you may be familiar with The Herbary at Bear Creek Farm, located at 494 Lakewood Farmingdale Rd., Howell, NJ. If not, you may want to check out their website at www.bearcreekherbary.com
This will be a great way for us all to get together again, so bring your own chair, wear a mask and be prepared to have some fun while social distancing!

Plant This, Not That: Deer-Resistant Native Alternatives to Invasive Plants Dr. Mike Van Clef will discuss the impacts of invasive species in natural areas, ways to identify and control them at your home, and native alternatives. He will also cover how to select deer-resistant native plants and develop creative ways to protect any native plant from marauding deer.

Attracting Birds to Your Jersey-Friendly Yard Learn how to provide habitat for birds in your yard by using native plants that provide food, shelter and nesting places that birds need to survive. Create a landscape of beautiful plants that are compatible with our native soils and make your yard a low-maintenance, chemical-free oasis for the birds!

May11 Webinar in Place of Meeting!
Originally, we had planned to have Shari Kondrup, Brick Twp. Municipal Utilities Authority, present a program on Rain Gardens at our May 11 th meeting. Now that we are unable to meet in person, Shari has offered to arrange a virtual presentation on Rain Gardens, via a WebExMeeting. As an added bonus, Karen Walzer, Barnegat Bay Partnership Staff Liaison Education & Outreach, will give a quick review of the Jersey-Friendly Yards website and show us how to search for native plants that can be used in a rain garden.

Beaver Dam Creek (the Garden Tour Band) will be performing at Albert Music Hall 131 wells mill rd Sat Feb 22 2020. Doors open at 7pm. BDC goes on at 8pm. Albert Hall is a great Pinelands Tradition.

Brick Garden Club member, Linda Helck, has offered to be our speaker at the November 11th meeting. Linda will demonstrate how to make a tabletop (15") boxwood holiday tree. She will also provide kits for those attending so they can make their own tree at home. To ensure that you receive a kit that night, please RSVP by November 4th to Doris Innes

lawns, trees, shrubs, perennials, herbs, and vegetable gardens as winter approaches. She will also discuss some ideas for creating fall & winter gardens and offer some advice on bringing plants indoors during the winter.
