Town Hall Holiday Trees!
The theme for the Garden Club's town hall Christmas tree is "Super Heroes". We made and collected ornaments, that represented the Military Branches, Police, Firefighters, Emergency Responders, Doctors, Nurses, EMT's, Teachers, Moms and Dads.
We made 40 handmade ornaments and about 15 store-bought ornaments that Mary LaPolla and I found. We also had some donated photos. Simple bows of red, blue, white, and green were also made to fill in the
tree. The color theme for the ribbons on top of the tree, as well as many of the ornaments stand for the "Thin Lines of Blue, for Police, Red, for firefighters, White, for doctors/nurses, EMT's, and Green, for military."
We had a few people donate photos of family members who represented the military, police and firefighters. Both my husband and I were in the Air Force, so I donated photos of each of us in our uniform.
As far as any ornaments that we would consider our favorites, that would be hard to choose. We think they are all great! Everyone should go see the trees, take their time looking at all the ornaments and then take a moment to reflect on all the Super Heroes that help us all year long.
Thanks to Mary LaPolla and Connie Keane for their help in this project. Merry Christmas everyone.

Successful September Meeting!
See events page for more details!
WANT A WAY TO STAY CONNECTED TO OUR CLUB WHILE MAKING A CONTRIBUTION?
We don’t currently have the benefit of meetings where we could explain projects and pass around “sign-up” sheets; yet, the need for volunteers to help at our Rt.70 and Cultural Arts Center locations continues. Weeding is the main task we need help with right now and into September. As gardeners, some of us even enjoy weeding! To quote British gardener Christopher Lloyd, weeding can be a “kind of soothing monotony.” There are other garden tasks that come up as well. Just a few hours of your time can be a big help. As we all try to beat the heat...maybe you’d prefer to stop on your own and spend an hour or two in early morning or early evening? Perhaps you’d like to pick a small area to keep up on your own or with a friend? If an announced “pop-up” work day isn’t good for you, please consider reaching out to us. Perhaps we can meet you at another time or work out another way to accommodate you. To “sign-up”, ask questions, or make suggestions, please contact Mary LaPolla, malapolla@comcast.net 732-920-8231 or Carol Kilgannon, kilgannon_c@yahoo.com (underscore before “c”) 732-255-2176. You may also use the contact page of our Brick Garden Club website. With a list of willing volunteers, we’ll be able to reach out to you directly.
THANK YOU to Sue Fevola, Linda Helck, Ann Hopko and Sue MacDougall for their help at Rt.70. They all spent time in June and July weeding and cleaning up plants. Their efforts are very much appreciated.
Thanks also to Carol Kilgannon, Mary LaPolla and Sue MacDougall for volunteering in the CAC clean up. The CAC still needs more loving care. Three people are hardly enough to do the clean-up that is needed. Please help us out! Call Mary LaPolla at the contact above.

As an added bonus, Karen Walzer, Barnegat Bay Partnership Staff Liaison Education & Outreach, will give a quick review of the Jersey-Friendly Yards website and show us how to search for native plants that can be used in a rain garden.
The 2020 Garden Tour and Tea was Cancelled
The Garden Club Executive Board had a conference telephone meeting on April 23 and it was voted to cancel the tour for 2020 due to so many unknowns with the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you to the committee members for putting in their time & trying to make this work. We have a head start on next year as some of our homeowners expressed their willingness to participate in 2021.
