Workshops
Dear Club members,
After the exuberance of bloom in April - May, we are often surprised with the sudden ubiquitously green June gardens, which have very few blooming plants and a limited variety of foliage. As this time presents a challenge to many gardeners, let’s explore June gardening possibilities during a workshop in the “Four Season Garden” at 422 Aurora Dr, Brick NJ 08723.
During the workshop, we can examine various gardening opportunities such as:
- aromatic plants (lavender, rosemary, thyme, oregano, cedar) in the perennial garden as repellents agains harmful bugs (ticks, chiggers, etc.);
- summer fertilization (lawn & flowerbeds);
- cost/labor efficient flowerbed expansion;
- early summer blooming plants;
- use of succession of perennial blooming plants (instead of filling those blooming “gaps” with annuals);
- foliage diversity and its combinations (both coniferous and broadleaf plants);
- esthetically appealing/looking evergreen plants (both coniferous and broadleaf - evergreen magnolia, camellias, evergreen euonymus, rhododendrons, azaleas, cedars, cypresses, pines, spruces, etc.;
- cold hardy tropical looking plants (Japanese cold hardy banana, umbrella magnolia, figs, southern magnolia, Aucuba and others).
- perennial garden border (trees, shrubs, perennial flowers, ground covers);
- any other questions you may have about summer garden maintenance.
