Ellen, Matt and I met last Monday. Matt brought copies of a rough sketch of the area. We nailed down a landscaping plan for the serenity garden and Matt was going to print out our design. 
We discussed ways to memorialize garden club members such as engraved bricks or stones, and plants and/or planters donated to remember loved ones.
We discussed many plants! Hedges to border the north border, plants to border the pollinator garden perimeter and trees/ plants for raised beds. (See list below)
We discussed the fencing, an arbor and using pavers with polymeric sand.

Matt, Ellen, Bill and I met at the CAC on Monday. We discussed locations for the serenity garden. If we have a solid plan soon, I’ll submit a proposal to Tara and ask Bob Byrne from the township to do work during the winter.
We took into consideration water sources, fencing and access and decided to use the area by the pollinator garden for the serenity garden. Matt will generate a base landscape plan and have it at our next meeting.
We all brainstormed ideas and had a great meeting!!!!

I have been a member of the Brick Garden Club since 2017 when my yard was selected for the annual Tour.  I started attending meetings and volunteering to water the Rt. 70 and Brick Blvd. Beds.  As I got to know other members I was invited to help with this website and our FaceBook page.  Saying "Yes." meant that I would also be on the Garden Club board.  I got to know more and more members by attending more meetings and volunteering.

Sadly, a dear board member, Dan Lapolla, passed away in July of 2023.  We were all lost without his leadership, friendship and connections to township leaders.  I suggested a memorial such as planting a tree and found that it hadn't been a part of the Garden Club's practice through the years.  I am relatively new to the Garden Club and rely heavily of the other board members' advice and experiences with the club but the desire to do something in Dan's honor stayed with me.

There have been many dear members who have passed away.  Recently, the passing of Carol Kilgannon has left the club struggling to recover and fill her role as advisor, gardening expert and leader of the Community Gardens Committee that manages the Rt. 70 and Brick Blvd. beds.  Several members contacted me about a memorial for Carol.

Dan Lapolla's wife, Mary, was the club's president at the time of his passing.  She suggested creating a Serenity Garden to honor all of our dear members who have passed away.  This was the beginning of creating the Serenity Garden.
